My advice is not directed at this particular practice although my cautionary tale does refer to my experience here. On my first visit with a minor concern about my dog, a list of procedures and an overnight stay was recommended which amounted to an estimated £400-600, quite a spread and based on the cost whatever this was must be serious so, it was agreed to. Nothing was found so some of the procedures were repeated the next day after a phone call during which and contrary to company policy, no extra costs were discussed. After then receiving a bill for £886 (choke, choke!) I was handed my dog back and told "she's feeling much better now", I had to ask myself "from what" as no explanation was offered by the assistant. Although not happy with the whole experience with my wallet and this years holiday fund being somewhat lighter, I paid the bill fully intending to voice my concerns to the practice manager. I wrote of my concerns expecting nothing in return but did get a reply which amounted to 'company line' and there it stops. My caution is to think carefully about how much to get talked into right at the beginning. Over caution by the vet and worry on your part can be difficult to see past and gets expensive so, go with one procedure at a time before agreeing to more. This gives you and the vet the breathing space to consider the worth of continuing or having a period of observation maybe. You can always take the next step but once a list of procedures are agreed those steps are taken for you in an attempt to find something with it seems, no thought of the undetectable condition being indistinguishable from a non-existent one. My worry now is I am asking my insurance company to pay back for treatment for,,,,nothing. I have removed both my dogs from the practice but (or as?) the good news is my dog was before, during and remains to this day very happy with no signs of illness.
